Help, makeup addict traveling! - how to pack your makeup essentials

Those makeup fanatics among you that study abroad (or simply travel a lot) might find it difficult to pack all your makeup essentials and keep them safe while traveling. What to do when you simply can't fit your whole collection in your suitcase? What to take and what to leave behind? How to store everything? Is one mascara enough? Do I really need that extra foundation? And what about brushes?! Oh my, what a mess it´s gonna be!

Keep calm and start packing. Here's a few tips to make all that packing a little easier.

1. First of all, get a handy cosmetic bag. I use a Playboy one that came with a perfume. You should look for one that is rather bulky, not flat, so you can fit a lot inside without crushing it. Good ones have a sturdy outer design and a reliable zip, so keep that in mind when you're buying one.

2. Keep the original paper boxes that came with your makeup. Not only will they help you organize the things in your downsized makeup kit, they will also protect the containers inside so they don't get dirty or deformed - that could result in leaking!

3. Store your smaller tools in a tin-box. Eyeliners,
pencils, cotton swabs, most of these can be really annoying when you dig through in a hurry. A tin box keeps it all in order and also prevents damage. I got mine at a drugstore - it was originally filled with pantyliners.

4. Similarly, brushes can be just as messy when there's too many of them in one place. For brushes, I recommend roll pouches. They can usually hold as many as 10 brushes, while keeping the bristles straight and clean. No need to leave your favourite tools at home!

There, now you should be able to fit all the things you love inside comfortably for easy use. But what to take? The following is a list of what I carry around at all times:

- 2 eyeliners (liquid and felt tip - easier to handle in case I have to apply it quickly)
- 2 mascaras (a regular one and one with special applicator for easy handling)
- eyebrow pencil with a built-in spooly brush
- one soft colourful eye pencil in case I don´t have enough time/space to deal with eyeshadows
- highligting pencil to substitute for all the eyeshadow-type highligters
- eyebrow gel (tinted one would be even better)
- multiple cotton swabs (always a necessity when one needs to fix his eyeliner or remove fallouts)
- favourite powder, blush, bronzer
- multi-coloured corrector pack
- light coverage BB cream
- full coverage makeup
- eyeshadow base + 1 small eyeshadow palette (you don´t need to be all the colours of the rainbow, take one that has fitting, neutral, yet trendy colours)
- tweezers + small scissors (for trimming your eyebrows)
- favourite brush set + a beauty sponge!

Hope this helps and remember - wherever you´re headed, be fabulous.

    1. Can´t remember - did the bag get heavier with more stuff in it or not? :-D

    3. Why, it doesn´t matter how heavy it is :-D As long as it stays small.
